Description of Training Sites

1. John Dempsey Hospital (UConn Health Center) is a primary and tertiary center providing experience in both outpatient and inpatient gastrointestinal medicine. Currently, ambulatory offices see 600 new patients per year and 2,000 return visits. Consultations average two to four per day; and there are a wide variety of diagnostic, endoscopic and radiographic procedures. Specialized programs such as the Gallstone Education and Management Center offer unique training in percutaneous gallstone dissolution and biliary manometry, and endoscopic ultrasound. 2. Hartford Hospital is an 860-bed primary and tertiary university-general hospital and has one of the preeminent surgical programs within the eastern United States. The Division's Hartford Hospital Site Director is Dr. Joseph Cappa, who maintains an interest in Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Clinical Research. Drs. 3. St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center is a 700-bed university-general hospital. The Division’s St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center’s Site Director is Dr. Jay Benson. The Section provides a high-volume diagnostic and technical experience in a wide variety of gastrointestinal disorders. 4. The Hospital of Central Connecticut at New Britain General and Bradley Memorial is a 414-bed, 32 bassinet, acute-care hospital with campuses in New Britain and Southington serving as a site for the University Primary Care Internal Medicine Training Program. The Division’s Site Director is Dr. Mark Versland.
