OB/GYN Care

Every woman knows that finding the right OB/GYN is one of the most important decisions of her life. At the University of Connecticut Health Center, women of all ages can make a smart choice.

Our experienced physicians and nurse practitioners offer expert care in a sensitive, caring environment. Services include regular, preventive OB/GYN care and help with issues such as:

Our Physicians

Photo of Ramzi Alkass, M.D. Ramzi Alkass, M.D., has a special interest in minimally invasive surgery. After graduating from medical school at Saint George's University in Grenada, West Indies, he completed an obstetrics and gynecology residency at the UConn Health Center.
Photo of Stephanie Bowers, M.D. Stephanie Bowers, M.D., provides care for women of all ages. She is a graduate of Wesleyan University and the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, where she also completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology.
Photo of Cathleen (Catie) Campbell, M.D., F.A.C.O.G. Cathleen (Catie) Campbell, M.D., F.A.C.O.G., has a special interest in minimally invasive surgery. She is a graduate of the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and completed her internship and residency at Hartford Hospital.
Photo of Erica S. Hammer, M.D. Erica S. Hammer, M.D., is a graduate of the University of Vermont College of Medicine. She completed her internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. Dr. Hammer is also an OB/GYN hospitalist.
Photo of Ursula Steadman, M.D. Ursula Steadman, M.D., is a graduate of the Medical College of Pennsylvania and completed her internship and residency at Hartford Hospital. Her areas of clinical interest include adolescent health care and menopause management.
Photo of Joseph A. Walsh, M.D. Joseph A. Walsh, M.D., is a graduate of Jefferson Medical College. He completed an internship and residency at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Some of his areas of expertise include exercise and health, high-risk pregnancy and PMS.
Photo of Nancy Kalagher, A.P.R.N. Nancy Kalagher, A.P.R.N., is a certified women’s health care nurse practitioner who has a special interest in adolescent health care. She graduated from the University of Rochester and the University of Texas Health Science Center, Advanced Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner Program.

Family Birthing Center: UConn Delivers

UConn physicians deliver with care at the Health Center’s John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington. Here, moms and babies receive care in a topflight facility, with a distinctively home-like feeling. Families enjoy the quiet setting and family birthing rooms. For more information, visit the Family Birthing Center page.

And UConn also delivers peace of mind. Babies born with complications receive expert care in the adjacent Neonatal Intensive Care Unit – one of the finest units of its kind in the country.
