General Surgery

Our Facilities

With nine modern, fully-equipped operating rooms, our staff can accommodate the most complex surgical procedures. The operating rooms also have modern, precision endoscopic equipment designed for outpatient or same-day procedures ranging from plastic surgery to orthopaedic repairs. These less invasive surgical techniques help patients heal more quickly with less pain.

Areas of Expertise

Our general surgeons have extensive training and experience in common surgical problems:

  • Gall bladder
  • Hernia repair
  • Appendicitis
  • Bowel obstruction
  • Abscesses
  • Tumors
  • Ulcers

As medical school faculty, our general surgeons have trained and developed expertise in particular areas:

  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Pancreatitis
  • Upper gastrointestinal inflammatory disorders
  • Thyroid and parathyroid disease
  • Breast cancer
  • Soft tissue tumors

Before and After Surgery

We understand that an operation, no matter how routine, is serious to the patient and the entire family. Our staff takes the time to explain each procedure fully, providing education about preparation before the surgery and recovery and rehabilitation after the procedure.

Our Staff

Our general surgeons are board certified. They serve as faculty members in UConn's School of Medicine, where their research and expertise help train the next generation of physicians.
