Women's Health
The University of Connecticut Health Center offers expert care for every season in a woman’s life. Many services are offered at the Charlotte Johnson Hollfelder Center for Women's Health, conveniently located off the hospital lobby.
Services
include comprehensive OB/GYN care, advanced reproductive services to help couples start families, and gold standard testing and diagnostic tools for osteoporosis, heart disease, breast cancer and many other conditions. Our physicians and medical staff understand women’s unique health care needs and respond to every woman with care and dignity.
Here is a list of some of the women’s health services available at the UConn Health Center.
Obstetrics and Gynecology:
Services include regular preventative OB/GYN care and help with more
complex issues, such as planning for pregnancy, prenatal care, major and
laparoscopic gynecologic surgery, managing menopause, and more. Patients
are seen in Farmington, West Hartford and East Hartford.
Center for Advanced Reproductive Services:
Our highly skilled team offers a range of diagnostic services and
treatments for couples who experience infertility. UConn was one of the
first sites to offer in vitro fertilization (IVF) and continues to
achieve success rates above national averages in many categories.
Patients are seen in Farmington and Hamden.
The Pat and Jim Calhoun
Cardiology Center: UConn offers the latest treatments for heart
disease - the number one killer of American women. Services include
angioplasty and surgery, as well as routine testing and preventative
cardiology to manage risk factors such as hypertension and cholesterol
disorders.
Maternal-Fetal Medicine:
Maternal-fetal medicine physicians provide care for pregnant woman with
special health concerns, such as diabetes, hypertension, sickle cell
disease, multiple gestation and other complications.
The Carole and Ray Neag
Comprehensive Cancer Center: UConn offers a full spectrum of
comprehensive cancer care from education and prevention strategies to
early detection, innovative treatments, complementary and alternate
therapies, reconstructive surgery and rehabilitation. Enrollment in
innovative clinical trials and research studies is encouraged.
Breast Cancer Program:
Within the Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center, a complete array of breast
health services is offered, including a multidisciplinary approach to
streamline care for women.
Gynecologic Oncology:
Also within the Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center, complete medical and
surgical care, as well as radiation oncology and rehabilitative
services, is available for women with a gynecologic malignancy.
Mammography: Services are available at the main Health Center
campus in Farmington and the East Hartford office of UConn Health
Partners. Both locations offer convenient hours and free parking.
Skin Care/Dermatology:
UConn dermatologists evaluate and treat all skin cancers, melanoma
and atypical nevi as well as skin diseases including acne, psoriasis,
eczema, and hair loss. A full complement of cosmetic services is
available, including laser therapy, chemical peels, sclerotherapy,
microdermabrasion, and more, including the services of an on-staff
aesthetician.
Varicose Vein Removal: Varicose veins can be unsightly, but they are not just a cosmetic problem. They can be a serious health
problem leading to pain, swelling and even blood clots. Minimally invasive treatment options, including sclerotherapy and Endovenus Laser Treatment, are available.
The UConn Center for Osteoporosis:
Medical experts provide comprehensive bone health assessment and
state-of-the-art bone density testing for pre and post menopausal women.
Prevention and treatment plans are individualized for healthy women, as
well as those with chronic medical disorders, such as cancer, that may
affect their skeletal health.
Orthopaedic Surgery and
Sports Medicine:
UConn sports medicine experts offer specialized care for female
athletes, as well as expert care for orthopaedic conditions that
disproportionately affect women, such as carpal tunnel syndrome, Colles'
fractures and thumb basilar joint arthritis.
Rehabilitative Medicine:
Physical therapists, occupational therapists and athletic trainers at
UConn help women manage a variety of chronic and acute conditions such
as osteoporosis, jaw pain, fibromyalgia, pelvic pain, low back pain
associated with pregnancy and post-partum, and much more.
Rheumatology:
UConn has a very strong program in the diagnosis and treatment of
connective tissue disorders, such as Sjögren's syndrome, scleroderma and
rheumatoid arthritis, all of which occur more frequently in women than
men. |
