John Dempsey Hospital

Established in 1975, John Dempsey is a 204-bed hospital that serves thousands of residents of urban, suburban and rural communities throughout the state and beyond.

John Dempsey provides convenient, routine inpatient and outpatient services, including an emergency department which offers the only 24-hour dental emergency service in the area; modern surgical suites; wellness and preventive health care services and much more.

The hospital's distinctive research and teaching environment has lead to the development of specialized programs including the Pat and Jim Calhoun Cardiology Center, the Carole and Ray Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the New England Musculoskeletal Institute.

The Pat and Jim Calhoun Cardiology Center consists of an expert team of cardiologists, hypertension specialists, and surgeons that offer top quality care to diagnose and treat diseases of the heart and blood vessels. Services include open heart surgery, angioplasty and a new heart rhythm program.

The Carole and Ray Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center is committed to providing expert compassionate care while pursuing the newest discoveries in cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment. Carolyn D. Runowicz, M.D., director of the Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center, is the immediate past President of the American Cancer Society.

Specialized care in the treatment of athletic injuries, and rheumatologic and orthopaedic conditions is offered at the New England Musculoskeletal Institute, located in the new Medical Arts and Research Building.
